Bihar Bypolls: Voting begins in 4 key constituencies amid tight security

Voting for the Bihar Assembly by-elections in the four constituencies of Tarari, Imamganj, Belaganj, and Ramgarh began at 7 AM on November 13, 2024, amidst tight security and heavy voter engagement. The election will determine the fate of 38 candidates, with over 12 lakh voters eligible to cast their ballots. The polling will continue until 6 PM, with some booths in Imamganj extending voting hours until 4 PM due to local circumstances.

In Tarari, where Bhojpur district authorities are overseeing the election, over 3.8 lakh voters are expected to participate. The district administration has set up 332 polling booths, with 181 marked as sensitive. These booths are equipped with heightened security measures, including an increased police presence. A special control room has been activated to coordinate the smooth flow of the election process. Tanay Sultania, the District Magistrate, stated that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful and transparent election, emphasizing the importance of voter safety.

The election process in Imamganj has not been without challenges. Villagers in the Dumriya Panchayat, specifically from areas such as Pananwan Tadh and Sivadih, have called for a boycott of the polls in protest of inadequate road infrastructure. Despite these protests, the authorities have ensured that the polling continues at all other booths in the constituency, maintaining law and order. Local election officials have taken measures to resolve grievances and encourage voter participation in the area.

In Belaganj and Ramgarh, the election is proceeding with high enthusiasm. Special arrangements have been made at polling booths to ensure that voters have access to essential services like drinking water, electricity, and proper sanitation. In some areas, mounted police units have been deployed to maintain order and assist with any security concerns. The administration is also focused on ensuring that the voting process is accessible for all eligible voters, including those with disabilities.

Authorities are particularly vigilant about potential disruptions, ensuring that no incidents affect the voting process. To prevent any untoward incidents, security personnel have been stationed at sensitive locations, and quick-response teams are on standby. The election commission has also emphasized the importance of adhering to the code of conduct, and officials are actively monitoring the entire process. The results of these by-elections will play a significant role in shaping the political landscape of Bihar. Counting of votes will take place on November 23, 2024, following the completion of the polling process.
